Sati

Little Sati appears only to play a minor role, but she is symbolic of something much more important. The offspring of Rama-Kandra (manager for recycling operations) and Kamala (an interactive software programmer).

We are told that in the machine world she is not required, that she does not have a purpose and as such, will be deleted. But at the end of Revolutions, we get a glimpse of what Sati can do…

…She can make the world beautiful.

She is representative of all those organisations and individuals that are listening to what people really want and to what the planet needs. They are trying to make the world a better place for all: a more sustainable ecosystem; a less stressful place; a more caring society; etc. But, these people are not required by the system and are, therefore, fighting a losing battle. Unless, they can be rescued by making a deal with someone in power. We have no idea of the arrangement between Rama-Kandra and the Merovingian, but we can be assured it was dodgy and biased toward the Merovingian.

In this world, unless something is economically viable, it doesn’t happen.
